Job Description
Purpose of the Role
As Category Manager – Indirects, you will lead the strategic supply of indirect commodities and services to ensure:
- Maximum value delivery in line with organizational objectives
- Operational and contractual compliance to mitigate business risk
- High-performance supplier relationship management
You will define and execute category strategies to drive:
- Cost optimization and sustainable savings
- Supply risk reduction
- Opportunities for local and HDSA spend growth
Additionally, you will create and maintain strategic contracts, manage supplier relationships, and oversee Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) benefits to meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy & Execution
- Develop, refine, and implement category strategies with stakeholder alignment
- Lead end-to-end sourcing, contracting, and Contract management for indirect categories
- Negotiate high-value agreements with strategic suppliers
- Collaborate with Group Legal to craft tailored contracts for innovation, performance, and joint initiatives
Sustainability & Social Impact
- Align category strategies with community-specific ESG priorities
- Embed inclusive procurement targets in supplier agreements
- Drive sustainable value through ESG initiatives, cost reduction, and innovation
- Develop a long-term category vision aligned with global objectives
Supplier Relationship & Performance
- Strengthen key supplier partnerships through structured engagement
- Monitor supplier performance and contractual compliance
- Optimize vendor consolidation and off-contract spend
Supply Chain Excellence
- Partner with the Center of Excellence (CoE) to enhance commercial practices
- Implement best-in-class standards and digital solutions
- Lead category-specific Communities of Practice
- Mitigate contractual risks and resolve escalations
People & Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing commercial team
- Oversee work planning, execution, and performance tracking
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to internal governance policies and legislative requirements
- Uphold De Beers’ procurement and sustainability standards
Qualifications
- Degree in Commercial, Business, Engineering, or related field
- Advanced qualifications (MBA, MCIPs) preferred
- 5–10 years of experience in category management, sourcing, and indirect procurement
- Proven expertise in mining, plant maintenance, or downstream supply chains
