Field Technician – Junior

Purpose of the Role:
The Field Technician – Junior will oversee and perform installations, repairs, and surveys on Wireless and Fibre networks for home and small business clients. This role requires adherence to procedures, strong teamwork, and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

General:

  • Follow SOPs and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Team Leaders and Schedulers.
  • Maintain project and safety documentation.
  • Provide accurate reporting on work completed.
  • Ensure stock availability for scheduled tasks.
  • Perform equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety protocols.
  • Complete SHER and OHS documentation.
  • Conduct Fibre troubleshooting (splicing, testing, dome management).
  • Conduct Wireless troubleshooting (signal testing, bandwidth capacity).
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting (IP conflicts, firewall, routing).
  • Install VoIP systems.
  • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Work overtime, weekends, or emergency call-outs as needed.
  • Work at heights (roofs, poles, buildings) and in confined spaces.

Installation:

  • Receive and process daily job cards for new installations.
  • Verify and gather required stock for installations.
  • Confirm client needs and adjust quotes if necessary.
  • Install Fibre and Wireless CPEs.
  • Conduct internal and external cable runs (Fibre and Network).
  • Coordinate with Team Leaders to confirm RF/Fibre signal quality.
  • Set up basic access points and networks.
  • Test client equipment and confirm functionality.
  • Update firmware, clean up, and document with photos.
  • Complete job cards with technical details and photos.
  • Inspect site for future issues and update records.
  • Finalize tickets for invoicing.

Callout Repairs:

  • Troubleshoot client-reported issues.
  • Identify and resolve Fibre/Wireless performance problems.
  • Communicate repair costs to clients.
  • Replace faulty equipment as needed.
  • Confirm client satisfaction post-repair.
  • Document work and update tickets for invoicing.

CPE Recovery (Wireless & Fibre):

  • Remove and clean up decommissioned equipment.
  • Complete recovery job cards.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 1+ year Fibre Optic splicing experience.
  • 1+ year RF/Wireless experience.
  • Knowledge of network structures and crimping.
  • IT industry experience (advantageous).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Basic Networking knowledge (asset).
  • Technical training (Electronics, IT, VoIP, IP cameras – asset).
  • Experience with Fibre troubleshooting tools (OTDR, splicers, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with hand/power tools.
  • Fibre termination and fusion splicing expertise.
  • Physically fit for demanding tasks (lifting, climbing, confined spaces).
  • Organized, self-disciplined, and motivated.

Education Requirements:

  • Grade 12.
  • Specialized certifications (advantageous).
