Legal Advisor (Contract) – HomeChoice
HomeChoice is seeking an experienced admitted attorney with expertise in contract drafting, corporate governance, and consumer law. If you are passionate about working with business stakeholders, detail-oriented, and capable of seeing the bigger picture, this role is for you. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Contract drafting, reviewing, and amending
- Providing proactive, business-focused legal advice across regulatory matters
- Analyzing and identifying legal risks within business operations
What You Will Love Doing in This Role
- Drafting and reviewing contracts, including service & supply agreements, settlement agreements, logistics & transport agreements, employment contracts, and operational agreements. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand objectives, mitigate risks, and assess legal implications.
- Staying updated with key legislation: National Credit Act, Consumer Protection Act, POPI Act, FAIS Act, FICA, BCEA, Employment Equity Act, Labour Relations Act, and more.
- Advising on and drafting business policies, including ethics, conduct, employment, SOPs, and process documents.
- Providing legal support and guidance to procurement, supply chain, HR, IT, marketing, and operations teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitoring industry trends, legal updates, and regulatory changes relevant to credit, insurance, and retail sectors in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
- Preparing legal opinions, memorandums, and presenting findings to business stakeholders.
- Drafting legal correspondence such as demand letters, customer service responses, and regulatory submissions.
- Managing litigation within budgetary constraints.
- Overseeing the Intellectual Property portfolio, including trademark and patent registrations and renewals.
- Maintaining an organized contract register to track renewals and expiration dates.
- Handling ad hoc legal projects in response to business or regulatory needs.
What You’ll Need to Do This Role
Qualifications and Professional Requirements
- LLB degree and admitted as an attorney in South Africa.
- 2-4 years of post-qualification experience in commercial contracts, employment law, and legal correspondence.
- Strong analytical skills for effective problem-solving and legal assessment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
