Legal Advisor (Contract) – HomeChoice

HomeChoice is seeking an experienced admitted attorney with expertise in contract drafting, corporate governance, and consumer law to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about collaborating with business stakeholders while maintaining a keen eye for detail and strategic perspective. This role involves:

  • Contract Drafting, Reviewing, and Amending
  • Providing Proactive Legal and Business-Focused Advice
  • Analyzing Legal Risks and Implications in Business Operations

What You Will Love Doing in This Role

  • Drafting and reviewing contracts, including service & supply agreements, settlement agreements, logistics & transport provider agreements, employment & independent contractor agreements, and operational agreements. Collaborate with stakeholders to assess risks and legal consequences.
  • Applying knowledge of key legislation, including the National Credit Act, Consumer Protection Act, POPIA, FAIS Act, FIC Act, BCEA, EEA, and Labour Relations Act.
  • Advising on and drafting business policies, such as conduct, ethics, employment policies, SOPs, and process documents.
  • Supporting and providing legal advice to departments like procurement, supply chain, HR, IT, marketing, and operations while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends and legal developments impacting HomeChoice in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
  • Preparing legal opinions and memorandums, including presenting findings to key stakeholders.
  • Drafting legal correspondence, including letters of demand and regulatory responses.
  • Managing litigation within legal budget constraints.
  • Overseeing Intellectual Property portfolio, including trademark and patent renewals.
  • Maintaining a contract register to track and monitor expirations.
  • Leading ad-hoc projects in response to regulatory changes.

What You’ll Need to Excel in This Role

Qualifications & Professional Requirements:

  • LLB degree and admission as an attorney in South Africa (in good standing).
  • 2-4 years of post-qualification experience in commercial contracts, employment law, and legal correspondence.
  • Strong analytical skills for problem-solving and legal assessment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
