Grain Marketer (AFGRI)
AFGRI is seeking an experienced Marketer (Grain) to drive grain marketing efforts, targeting 150,000 to 200,000 tons annually in domestic markets or at least 50,000 tons in external markets. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding AFGRI’s grain market share across South Africa and select African countries.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING
- BCom or BSc in Agriculture or a related field
REQUIRED MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5 years in the agricultural industry, preferably as a Procurement Officer with grain marketing experience
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Increase grain market share by engaging producers, assessing grain requirements, and expanding AFGRI’s reach
- Develop and negotiate optimal market strategies for farmers using SAFEX, managing pricing and risk
- Build and maintain a robust procurement network to grow AFGRI’s market presence
- Provide daily grain price updates and market insights to farmers
- Resolve SAFEX and pricing-related enquiries promptly
- Monitor and adjust farmers’ risk exposure, offering alternative pricing strategies when needed
- Manage grain deliveries, payments, and Contract compliance with silo agreements
- Ensure timely signing and tracking of contracts, including closing dates and risk assessments
- Maintain accurate SAFEX hedging records and communicate positions to farmers
- Conduct crop estimations for AFGRI silos to forecast deliveries and market volumes
- Represent AFGRI at farmer forums, union meetings, and industry events
- Deliver informative sessions for farmer groups and engage with key industry stakeholders
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES
- Strong understanding of grain marketing, SAFEX, and the agricultural supply chain
- Knowledge of contracts and legal terms in grain trading
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, and driving skills
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

- Strong networking, relationship-building, and negotiation skills

- Assertive communicator with strong business acumen
