Head of Credit Risk: Credit Risk and Collections Strategy – HomeChoice

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated Head of Credit Risk to lead our Credit Risk and Collections Strategy function. This role is pivotal in driving strategic credit risk decisions, optimizing collections, overseeing IFRS 9 provisioning, and contributing to fraud prevention initiatives. As a key leader, you will provide strategic direction, analytics, and governance across the entire credit lifecycle.

What You Will Love Doing in This Role

  • Oversee credit risk assessment processes, including risk models, scoring systems, underwriting criteria, and end-to-end workflows.
  • Develop and implement credit risk policies, collections, and recovery strategies to optimize customer accounts, debtor costs, and cash yields.
  • Lead a high-performing team of analysts in forecasting receivables provisions and recoveries.
  • Own debtor costs in the income statement and collaborate with Finance on forecasting and reporting.
  • Partner with Credit Operations to execute strategies, review performance, and recommend enhancements.
  • Represent Credit Risk in collections strategy discussions, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Design and maintain reporting tools (Power BI), analytics, and forecasting models, leveraging SAS, SQL, and data analytics for insights.
  • Engage with regulators, auditors, investors, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and manage emerging risks.
  • Stay ahead of regulatory changes, industry trends, and emerging risks in credit management.
  • Contribute to talent development and capability-building within Credit Risk.
  • Provide strategic leadership, fostering innovation, risk awareness, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Need to Do This Role

Qualifications & Accreditations

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a numerate discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, or similar). Honors degree preferred.

Experience & Skills

  • 8+ years in credit risk, collections strategy, or recoveries, with experience in retail credit portfolios, banking, fintech, insurance, or financial services.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing teams of analysts or managers.
  • Strong forecasting and risk strategy expertise with advanced Excel; proficiency in SAS & SQL highly preferred.
  • Track record in designing and implementing credit risk policies, scoring systems, and governance frameworks.
  • Excellent reporting, presentation, and influencing skills at senior and executive levels (e.g., presenting at Credit Committee and Collections Forum).
  • Working knowledge of IFRS 9 provisioning principles (including oversight of technical modelling).
  • Understanding of fraud risk controls and early warning indicators in credit portfolios.
