Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Castle Gate is seeking a motivated Dispensary Support team member. This fixed-term position is for learners completing the basic pharmacist assistant course, providing hands-on experience in the pharmacy environment. Permanent employment will be offered once registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a basic pharmacist assistant.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
-
Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics (50%), Life Science and/or Physical Science, with an average of at least 50%
Job Specification

Complete a proficiency test to qualify for registration with SAPC as a learner basic assistant

Perform duties under the supervision of a pharmacist, including:
-
Sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
-
Assist with compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to SOPs
-
Unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and OTC shelves
-
Other duties as assigned by the Dispensary Manager

Learn to interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within legal requirements
-
Assist with accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, with pharmacist verification
-
Support stock control, maintaining cleanliness, organization, and monitoring expiry dates for Schedule 1–5 medicines

Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and appointments as requested
-
Assist with call center scripts and patient service calls

Provide health information to individuals
-
Support scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
-
Report low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager

Receive and process dispensary stock according to company SOPs
Competencies
Essential
-
Proficient in English and a second language (read, write, speak)

Strong time management, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure

Excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, teamwork, conflict management, accountability, and professional conduct

Computer and numerical skills
Advantageous
-
Retail/FMCG or Dis-Chem front shop experience

Knowledge of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Third language
-
Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting
