An established and respected short-term insurance brokerage in Claremont, Cape Town, is looking for an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter to join their dynamic team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to manage a portfolio within a supportive, tech-driven environment.
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will be a FAIS-accredited underwriter with at least 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines. Proficiency in CIMS and the Santam mainframe is essential, along with the ability to work independently in a paperless setting. Strong communication skills and a keen eye for detail are critical.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, insurers, and suppliers
- Offer expert advice on policy covers, terms, and conditions
- Manage the full underwriting cycle: quotes, new business, renewals, and endorsements
- Ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements and Binder agreements
- Maintain accurate records on internal CRM systems
- Monitor and manage credit control for the assigned portfolio
- Assess risks and negotiate terms with insurers and brokers
- Stay updated on industry trends and product developments
Minimum Requirements:
- FAIS accredited (relevant qualification and RE5)
- Minimum 5 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience
- Proficient in CIMS and the Santam mainframe
- Self-sufficient with strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- High attention to detail
- Comfortable in a fully digital work environment
