Job Description – Systems Technician
As a Systems Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of underground mine automation systems, including Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM), autonomous navigation, and wireless telecommunication technologies.
Working in collaboration with TMM Technicians, you will ensure seamless integration of onboard automation, communication systems, and third-party technologies—key to advancing mining automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, repair, and commission hardware, software, and telecommunication systems.
- Maintain tools and equipment for servicing mine automation systems.
- Upgrade systems with the latest hardware and software advancements.
- Plan and execute preventative and corrective maintenance on field instrumentation, communication infrastructure, and software systems.
- Perform routine system maintenance and document completed tasks.
- Mentor colleagues on service techniques and proper tool use.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for fault-finding and system troubleshooting.
Qualifications
- National Diploma or NQF Level 6 in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical (Mechatronics) Engineering.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent (advantageous).
- Preferred certifications/training:
- Trade Certificate in Millwright (Electro-mechanical), Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or Auto Electrical.
- Valid EB/Code 08 Driver’s License.
- Work experience:
- Minimum 5 years in engineering or mining, with hands-on experience in Mine Automation Systems (e.g., Newtrax/Optimine MDP, Automine, Deswik).
- Proficiency in PLCs, SCADA, and process control instrumentation.
Additional Requirements
- Must be available for standby, call-out duties, and shift work.
