Purpose of the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Operations of Sanlam Private Wealth, as the Manager: Tax Reporting, you will oversee the day-to-day execution of all client and organisational tax reporting processes. You will collaborate with Group Tax, external advisors, and client-facing teams, while also influencing areas such as client onboarding, projects, wider client reporting, and IT operations.
What will you do?
Strategy, Vision, and Leadership
- Oversee strategic objectives related to tax reporting for clients and the organisation.
- Drive improvements in tax infrastructure, processes, and outputs.
- Ensure compliance with SARS and other tax reporting obligations.
Operations
- Assess and enhance the efficiency of tax reporting delivery.
- Ensure timely submission of tax reports including client Provisional and Final Tax Statements, SARS filings (IT3B, IT3C, FATCA & CRS, STT, DWT), and U.S. filings (1099, 1042).
- Manage budgetary targets, communications, and monitoring.
Project Consulting & Technical Support
- Serve as the tax reporting subject matter expert, providing technical guidance to teams.
- Advise on projects impacting tax operational requirements.
System Efficiency & Improvement
- Enhance reporting systems through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Implement quick-win process improvements for team efficiency.
- Coordinate with vendors and IT teams on system upgrades.
- Ensure tax software compliance with regulatory changes.
Control and Risk Management
- Develop and implement policies and controls for tax reporting risks.
- Monitor controls to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Guide the creation of standard operating procedures and training materials.
People Management
- Build and lead a high-performing tax reporting team.
- Implement effective people management practices in consultation with HR.
- Conduct performance management for staff.
Qualification and Experience
- Qualified Chartered Accountant with trainee experience at a Big 4 firm (PwC, EY, Deloitte, KPMG).
- Audit or related experience in Financial Services, preferably with listed clients.
- Strong academic background in tax-related subjects.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth understanding of internal controls in Financial Services.
- Collaborative team player with resilience under pressure.
- Strong analytical and numerical proficiency.
- Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel) skills.
