Safety Officer Projects – Cementation Africa (Murray & Roberts)
Cementation Africa is seeking a qualified Safety Officer Projects to join Tharisa Mine. The successful candidate will report to the Safety Manager and will receive competitive remuneration and benefits aligned with the role. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications are open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
Job Description
The Safety Officer Projects will be responsible for:
- Conducting incident investigations and accurately recording findings.
- Applying accident/incident investigation techniques effectively.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations as per the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Identifying and reporting unsafe working conditions to management.
- Delivering reports on unsafe acts and conditions to line management.
- Facilitating and overseeing risk assessments and behavioral observation processes.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of safety campaigns, codes of practice, and proactive measures under the Business Management System.
- Supporting corrective action processes and providing feedback to management.
- Collecting and analyzing inspection, incident, and observation data for management review.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of Cementation Africa and client safety policies, procedures, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Knowledge of Rand Mutual insurance claims processes.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
- Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent.
- Trade certificate or Blasting certification.
- Degree/Diploma in Safety, Risk, Health, Environment, Quality, Hygiene, or Training Management (preferred).
- COMSOC 1 and 2 certifications.
- Investigation/TapRoot training (advantageous).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
- Audit certification for ISO 9001, 14001, and OHSAS 18001.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Valid EB driver’s license.
Work Experience:
- Supervisory experience (preferred).
- 3–5 years of experience in the mining sector.
- Basic understanding of mining operations, methods, and safety principles.
- Knowledge of strata control.
