Job Description
As the Risk Head at FirstRand, you will be responsible for managing risk in a highly complex environment by developing and implementing a risk management strategy aligned with segment and group objectives. You will lead a team to execute this strategy, drive platform thinking, and embed risk capabilities to proactively mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage SLAs for the risk function and oversee their effective execution.
- Contribute to and implement corporate governance, compliance, integrity, and ethics policies to identify and mitigate risk exposure.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and legislative changes, applying insights for continuous improvement.
- Drive risk awareness initiatives and oversee the resolution of audit findings.
- Represent the business in Group risk forums and cascade key insights to the team.
- Develop a legal, risk, and compliance strategy to proactively safeguard the bank.
- Ensure the implementation of legal, risk, and compliance policies in alignment with FirstRand standards and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret and apply policies to achieve risk management objectives.
- Define and track key performance indicators to measure risk outcomes.
- Execute business strategy by translating it into operational practices.
- Communicate policy updates, objectives, and critical success factors to stakeholders.
- Develop and implement best practices within operational policy frameworks.
- Analyze complex problems, assess their impact, and deliver innovative solutions.
- Adapt strategies to local conditions and regulatory landscapes.
- Influence organisational structures, capacity, and delivery systems to enhance risk management.
- Implement risk framework best practices and refine as necessary.
- Foster a strong risk culture through awareness campaigns and compliance advocacy.
- Escalate critical regulatory risks to EXCO, Risk Committees, or Group leadership as needed.
- Drive strategic projects, change management, and platform integration.
- Leverage Group capabilities to capitalize on opportunities.
- Promote adherence to policies and procedures across the business.
- Maintain expertise in legislative updates, industry trends, and local/global best practices.
- Provide thought leadership and strategic insights to the organisation.
- Lead by example, demonstrating commitment to organisational values.
- Build and nurture collaborative relationships across business units and the Group.
- Support employee development through targeted initiatives.
- Manage team performance and delivery against targets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce with Honours.
- 8–10 years of relevant risk management experience.
