Legal Advisor (Contract) – HomeChoice

About the Role
HomeChoice is seeking an experienced admitted attorney with expertise in contract drafting, corporate governance, and consumer law. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with business stakeholders, detail-oriented, and capable of seeing the bigger picture. This role involves:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and amending contracts.
  • Providing proactive, business-focused legal advice across regulatory matters.
  • Analyzing and identifying legal risks within business operations.

What You Will Love Doing in This Role

  • Draft and review contracts (service & supply agreements, settlement agreements, logistics & transport agreements, employment contracts, operational agreements, etc.), collaborating with stakeholders to assess risks and legal implications.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable legislation (National Credit Act, Consumer Protection Act, POPIA, FAIS, FICA, BCEA, Employment Equity Act, Labour Relations Act, etc.).
  • Advise on and draft business policies (conduct, ethics, employment, standard operating procedures).
  • Provide legal support and strategic guidance to departments such as procurement, supply chain, HR, IT, marketing, and operations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and legal developments in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
  • Prepare legal opinions and memorandums, presenting findings to key stakeholders.
  • Draft and manage legal correspondence (demand letters, customer service responses, regulatory communications).
  • Oversee litigation matters within budget parameters.
  • Manage the Intellectual Property portfolio, including trademark and patent renewals and registrations.
  • Maintain the contract register, tracking renewals and expirations.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects related to regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Need to Do This Role

Qualifications and Professional Requirements

  • LLB degree and admission as an attorney in South Africa (in good standing).
  • 2-4 years of post-qualification experience in commercial contracts, employment law, and legal correspondence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
