Job Description
As an Artisan Winder Electrician, you will support the Senior Electrical Foreman in maintaining, installing, and commissioning winder control and electrical systems. This role ensures compliance with OEM standards, legal requirements, and operational procedures. Your technical expertise will be critical in upholding safety, efficiency, and performance in line with the MHSA, Act of 1996.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a zero-harm culture by adhering to health, safety, environmental, and security policies.
- Maintain and service winder control and electrical systems, including compressors, shaft stations, and MV equipment.
- Update electrical documentation (drawings, databases, and datasheets).
- Conduct switching and preventive maintenance in accordance with procedures.
- Assess and decide on repair, replacement, or upgrades of components.
- Follow planned maintenance schedules and maintain accurate equipment records.
- Execute tasks as per instructions, procedures, and engineering requirements.
This role reports to the Senior Electrical Foreman within the VUP Engineering department.
Qualifications
Formal Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 with Mathematics and Physical Science
- Trade Certificate: Electrician
- MQA – Medium Voltage (MV) and Winder Competent
Role-Specific Knowledge & Skills:
- 5+ years in electrical maintenance, with at least 3 years in winder and shaft systems.
- Medium Voltage (MV) and Winder competency.
- Preferred experience with ACS 6000 or similar drive systems and SIL-rated installations.
- Strong knowledge of SHE legislation and industry standards.
- Troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance skills for electrical systems.
- Must undergo mine-specific winder system training.
- Valid EB/Code 8 Driver’s License.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Willingness to work shifts, standby duties, callouts, and overtime.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Medical Certificate of Fitness (including HTS clearance) for underground work.
- Successful completion of pre-employment checks (qualifications, psychometric assessments, security clearance).
