Primary Purpose of the Job
We are seeking a skilled SQL and Reporting Developer to join BDO, responsible for SQL development, data engineering, and reporting. The successful candidate will design and optimize SQL queries, develop reports and dashboards, and ensure data integrity and performance while supporting business decision-making with actionable insights.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and scripts.
- Maintain and enhance database systems for data integrity, security, and availability.
- Create and restore databases, ensuring seamless data operations.
- Monitor database performance, apply patches, and implement necessary updates.
- Develop and manage Server Agent jobs for automation.
- Support data warehousing solutions and contribute to data modeling.
- Establish ODBC connections between diverse databases and platforms.
- Develop and maintain operational, financial, and ad-hoc reports using SQL-based tools (e.g., SSRS, Power BI).
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in all reports and dashboards.
- Design and implement data pipelines and ETL processes for data integration.
- Manage large datasets with a focus on reliability, consistency, and scalability.
- Document database designs, ETL processes, and report development.
- Collaborate with developers on database structure and relationships.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 certification.
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or a related field.
Work Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in SQL development and reporting.
- Proven track record in database and report development.
Knowledge
- Advanced expertise in MS SQL Server BI Stack (SSRS, SSIS, T-SQL, Power Query, Power BI, DAX).
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Macros.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure).
Technical Competencies
- Deep understanding of database backup, recovery, security, and SQL.
- Experience with Crystal Reports or similar BI tools.
- Solid grasp of ETL processes, data warehousing, and data modeling.
