Optometrist – Online Prescription Verification (Remote, South Africa)
Position Mission
We are looking for an HPCSA-registered Optometrist to join SmartBuyGlasses, a leading online eyewear platform. Your key responsibility will be to verify customer prescriptions, ensure compliance with South African optical regulations, and provide professional oversight for online prescription dispensing.
Responsibilities
- Review and validate uploaded optical prescriptions (approx. 1 hour per day).
- Ensure all prescriptions meet South African health regulations and professional standards.
- Recommend suitable lens types based on prescription, age, and customer needs.
- Identify and escalate incomplete, expired, or questionable prescriptions.
- Provide clinical guidance on lens selection, measurements (e.g., PD), and optical corrections.
- Confirm that orders align with HPCSA dispensing guidelines.
- Work with customer support and product teams to resolve prescription-related inquiries.
- Stay updated on optical regulations and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- HPCSA-registered Optometrist.
- Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- 1–2 years of clinical optometry experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of prescriptions, lens design, and measurement parameters.
- Proficient in digital tools, email, and cloud-based systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- Ability to work remotely and independently.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience with e-commerce or tele-optometry platforms.
- Familiarity with practice management software and optical lab workflows.
- Knowledge of international optical prescriptions.
