Job Summary
The Exchange Control Team at Standard Chartered is responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory processes to maintain our Authorized Dealer’s License while delivering exceptional client service. This includes proactively identifying and implementing compliance activities across bank branches, supporting Banking and Service Delivery Divisions to mitigate operational risks, and ensuring all transactions adhere to current rules and regulations. The team also handles strategic submissions to the South Africa Reserve Bank (SARB), systematic filing of transaction reports, and administration of the loan reporting system. Key tasks involve generating transaction reports, responding to SARB inspections, daily reconciliation of the Exchange Control mailbox, and maintaining audit trails for compliance.
Key Responsibilities
The Exchange Control Officer ensures regulatory compliance and high-quality client service by:

Client Follow-Up & Assistance
- Proactively follow up with clients on pending or expired exchange control applications.
- Provide clients with expert exchange control guidance via meetings, calls, or email.
- Manage the SARB applications mailbox and ensure timely resolutions.

Information Management
- Maintain and update shared team resources monthly for accuracy.
- Escalate service issues for high-priority clients per established protocols.

Strategy & Business Compliance
- Vet exchange control transactions against Balance of Payments (BOP) categories and ensure timely reporting.
- Oversee the operational BOP system and related platforms.
- Process BOPCUS reports within 48 hours using Synthesis and ensure checksum accuracy.
- Guarantee data integrity for SARB submissions via reporting systems.
- Perform daily and monthly filings, including CTR and IFTR reports, per regulatory procedures.
- Govern hubbed activities at the Global Business Centre (GBS) and engage stakeholders effectively.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- University degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of managerial experience in a relevant field.
- Strong knowledge of SWIFT, ISO20022, payment systems, and cash management operations.
- Expertise in Exchange Control regulations and reporting requirements.
- Resilient under pressure, with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High integrity, control awareness, and adaptability to dynamic environments.
